Brake PArt
For this project we will create a brake part made of foam using the CNC mill. For the start of this project, everyone was given a file with the necessary dimensions for the part. Then, we had to create the part in Autodesk Inventor. After the part was correctly modeled in Inventor, the file was then moved to Fusion 360. We then created a tool path in Fusion 360 which would cut the brake part out of foam in the CNC mill.
Recipe
First, I observed the given dimensions to make the part. Then, I began two dimensional sketches of the part. After I made the correct sketches, I extruded them to create the brake part. Once the brake part was finished in Autodesk Inventor, I saved it and opened it in Fusion 360. In Fusion 360, I created a tool path for the mill to follow. This tool path is the code the mill will use to cut the brake part out of the foam. After the tool path was created, I moved the file to the mill. I stuck a rectangle piece of foam in the mill, and adjusted the mill to cut accordingly. Finally, I started the milling process. Once the brake part was cut out, I laser engraved my name onto the front.
Summary
In this project I honed my Inventor skills and also developed more skills in Fusion 360. This project was difficult to create Inventor, so the difficulty helped me get better at using the software. Also, many adjustments were needed in Fusion 360 to make sure everything was cut out correctly, so I learned more about that software. Most importantly, I learned how to use the CNC mill correctly. This skill could be useful if I ever need to use a CNC mill in my future.
